Daruma doll brings good luck and tenacity to those whom you gift it. In Japan, daruma dolls are widely available, and comes in a variety of colors each resembling different goals or wishes. The eyes of the daruma doll are blank when presented, and the recipient colors one eye upon wishing for the goal, then the other eye once the goal is accomplished.
Such was the case when passing through Narita Airport, when he stopped to pick one for her. He wanted her to finish her application to T1 MBA school, knowing how much getting a graduate degree would mean to her.
She filled in one eye, and 2 years later filled in the other eye.
His wish was to become a published author. Along the way, he braved many bumps on the road, writing for book jackets, magazine inserts and ads in a big chaotic city, all the while putting off his dream.
